第一幕：
第一场：皇宫中的一室
公主洁娜乌拉一边在镜前化妆，一边对女官黛琳达吐露和阿里欧丹特的恋情，由于这桩恋爱父王也认可了，所以感到无比快乐。女官刚离开，波利涅索公爵就闯进来，对公主倾诉爱意。事情过分唐突，公主因他的无礼而狂怒，唱出咏叹调《我看到可怕的事》(Orrida agli occhi miei)后就退场。
此刻回来的黛琳达就告诉公爵说，公主已有国王公认的、名叫阿里欧丹特的恋人，希望他死了这条心，并建议他“把眼睛好好睁开，看个清楚”(Apri le luci，e mira)。在这咏叹调中表明自己的思慕之情，希望他接受她的爱，然后也离去了。公爵随即表示，要利用黛琳达的爱，把情敌打垮。
第二场：皇宫的花园
