膝下无儿的阿富汗计程车司机卡勒德（Hadji Gul 哈吉·戈尔饰）有天在车上意外捡到了一个遭母亲蓄意遗弃的男婴孩。经济拮据的卡勒德无力抚养孩子，到警察局报案，却因时间太晚而被拒绝处理。卡勒德无奈，只好带孩子回家，与父亲商量后决定将孩子送去福利机构。但没想到孩子太小，福利机构无法接收。在那里，卡勒德遇到一对来阿富汗施行人道主义救助的法国义工，对方带他去了当地广播电台播放寻人启事，并承诺给予孩子的母亲100美元救助。次日卡勒德如约带孩子来到电台，却没想到门口争着领养孩子的妇女排成了队……
